The inspiration behind starting the business

Meet Mohamud Rukaya Yasmine, who founded the brand ‘Pink Flower’ which manufactures and markets eco-friendly handmade products.
Having a bagful of degrees and diplomas in the area of Human Resource Management, besides an MA in Public Administration, from several reputed universities in Tamilnadu, Yasmin, based out of Chennai, is a self-motivated entrepreneur, inspired by her mom who is a gynecologist by profession. She is also the founder of Kathija Nikah, a matrimony service platform for minority communities in India. “I believe using green products alone can help reduce, if not fully eliminate, the various human health and environmental issues, says Yasmine, a mom of a daughter. She adds that there is a lack of good eco-friendly alternatives in the market, and rightly so. She puts forth a pertinent question, “Are those so-called ‘big organic brands’ organic?” This inspired the creation of the brand ‘Pink Flower’.

Challenges faced by the startup
The brand’s products have gained appreciation from some of the friends and relatives of the founder, being the early adopters. However, things haven’t been easy for this startup with marketing challenges in an intensely competitive space. “There wasn’t even any way for me to know if I was targeting the right customers,” says Yasmine.

The biggest plus of the brand so far has been the quality of its products retaining the essential organic nature. Yasmine aims to empower women through her products at various levels. She cites an example of her customers having to tackle the challenge of personalizing house cleaning, and body and garden care, where her range of products offers this possibility in a rather cost-effective way.
